How To Learn French
How To Learn French…Fast And Fun
My cousin is planning on taking a trip to Normandy this summer (her first trip to France!) and she asked me recently:
“So what’s the best way to learn french in only a few months?”
I initially suggested that she take an evening course at her local college or language school.
Her reply: “That won’t work…it’ll be too hard for me to leave the house in the evenings, I have kids and a husband to look after! Can I learn french online, somehow? Oh, and I really can’t afford more than about $150 dollars.“
My secret thought: “Are you kidding me?”
Well, I did some searching around for online french lessons or online french courses. I was curious, actually, to see what was out there, having a french language teaching background myself.
I found a few good online french lessons, but they were several hundred dollars so out of her price range. They were looooong courses too….there was no way she’d get through them all in a few months.
I was almost on the verge of giving up the online option, until I came across this one.
It was discounted from $145 to $99, so was within her price range…so far so good. I spoke to my cousin and we decided to take a closer look.

We also signed up for their Learn French Online free 6 day course, so we could get a ‘taster’ of what the (paid) language course would be like.
We really liked what we saw in the free course, and could see lots of potential on how to learn french this way. It covered things that were relevant, that you or I would actually need (like going shopping, or in a restaurant).
It wasn’t boring and dry – the whole approach was fun and lighthearted, but still very effective – a refreshing change to the more “traditional” french language courses.
So my cousin decided to take the plunge and bought the Rocket French Premium Course.

She has been very pleased with the results so far.
I have also had a good look at her course materials, and I have to say I’m impressed with what you get for the price.
Here’s what we liked about the course:
- You can download the course instantly – you don’t have to wait for it to arrive in the mail;
- all the audio features and interactive games made it fun. You can download to your mp3 and practice while you’re out and about, so you’re not tied to the computer;
- there’s a forum that you can join where you can ask questions and get help – so you’re not totally left on your own
My cousin has been really happy with it. She feels like it really got her up to speed with the lingo and practical stuff that she would actually use on holiday.
